7.14 a.m. at my cubicle

Read The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis on the way to work. Let’s see, the preface knocked me off my feet by merit of its language, and the introductory blew my mind away with one single concept which I am still ruminating over! It is marinating in my head! I think it’s enough of POP today. Actually, I still have 6 more minutes before the bell goes to torture my brain a little.

"The creature causes pain by being born, and live by inflicting pain, and in pain they mostly die… Man, yet another quality appears, which we call reason, whereby he is enabled to foresee his own pain which henceforth is preceded with acute mental suffering… Every now and then they improve their condition a little and what we call a civilisation appears… they inflict peculiar sufferings of their own probably sufficient to outweigh what alleviations they may have brought to the normal pains of man."

My random thoughts… Is life about responding to pain? Is this what is driving the circle of life? Jesus bore the pain not to take away our pain, but so that His pain will be like ours.

It’s 6.14 a.m. Woke up with this thought.

"It didn’t take the dogs any PhD to author books on understanding homosapien behaviours but it certainly took many PhDs to analyse canine behaviours!"
And I thought we are the smarter specy! My thought is probably dripping with paradoxes. Either that, the dogs are really masters at reading body language. I mean, how exactly did Orli learn to backup when he was being taught so, other than concepts of conditioning. He certainly didn’t read any book! If canines could actually read, I wonder if they would still be as obedient and trainable. As it is, Freckles, my more intelligent dog (who can differentiate the names of her toys) pits her will against mine; she actually thinks through her options when I issue her a command!
Reading all these great books by these great authors such as C.S. Lewis, Spurgeon, Tozer, I would assume would make us smarter in knowing which way the true path lies; perhaps we think through too many options, consider too many sides, weigh too many consequences. Yet we struggle with simply putting our trust in God. Something which needs only a step of faith requires such complicated thought processes. Are we too intelligent for our own good? The mechanism of the self is governed by its will power that God has given us. Do we use the sovereignty of the will God has given us with responsibility? Do we surrender this will at His feet, and asked to be led instead by His Spirit? Do we temper our intelligence with God’s foreknowledge and wisdom?

GR8 BADMINTON GAME

I pitted myself against one of the best players this afternoon! Some of the footwork is coming back to me. It was a gr8 game today! I must admit the boy is good considering that he’s only 11! Or probaby because I am already pretty rusty and lack stamina. I don’t think he actually unleashed his potential today! He made me work the court! Great game and I love the challenge! Except that I pulled a thigh muscle that is already strained from the race on Fri. Not sure if I still can blade this evening. Suppose I will still go but take it easy then!
