What A Night

Had 2 games of bowling, went to the gym (timing improved YAY!), popped into the arcade and tried my hands (legs rather) on the Dance Mixer before heading off to late dinner at Yoshi (Sushi Tei and Hanabi were closing by then). Oh saw a silver SLK 200 and we parked beside it! It’s indeed gorgeous! I would love to hear the engine hum! We went into Dempsey Road to admire St George’s Church. It’s beautiful. Would have loved to explore the place around on foot some night.

Read some more of Waking the Dead. Eldredge made it very clear to his readers that we are in a battle. If we don’t see our lives as a war a lot of what the bible says does not make sense; in fact our lives won’t make sense. Satan cannot bear the glory we are reflecting from God. We are beautiful, powerful, glorious. the heart of Satan is vile and his plan is to steal our hearts, and anything else he can, our mind, our health, so that he can kill and destroy us. He would make us believe we are not worthy; anything to prevent us from living a victorious life in abundance. How to differentiate then among the voices of our flesh, Satan and God. "Any word or suggestion that brings discouragement, condemnation, accusation–that is not from God," suggested Eldredge, "…the voice of God is never harsh or accusing. His conviction brings a desire for repentance; Satan’s accusation kills our hearts (2 Cor 7:10)."
Going to unwind now. Nites.

Our Glory

Nelson Mandela,
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?" Actually who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. THere’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us… And as we let our own light shine, we unconciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberate others.

Compo

Reon Ho, a writer in my class, whose writing I enjoy, graces my blog.

"Ahh!" I yelled. I had this toothache for two long months. I was at the dental clinic, when I heard a boy yell as I opened the door. I was so terrified I jumped out of my skin. Time to hit the road, I said to myself. It was too late. The nurse had called my name. It was my turn. Gulp! The dentist extracted my tooth and proceeded to stuff it into my nostril! I was suffocating! I could not breathe! The dentist was mad! I screamed just like how the boy did earlier.
"Rise and shine!" my father said. Huh? It was just a dream. Phew! I really did think I was going to die.

Below is Chun Pu’s introductory paragraph (they are instructed by me never to begin compositions with "One day", "Last week"):
The rays of the sun filtered through the window panes as the earth was bathed with a warm rosy glow. I woke up when the clock went off shrilly. My eyelids felt as heavy as lead.

A Smooth Path

Author: Elisabeth Elliot
Source: A Lamp For My Feet
Scripture: Proverbs 3:6

The work of heavy highway equipment is to smooth the way for travelers by exalting valleys, making low the mountains and hills, straightening the crooked. Obstacles–trees, rocks, houses, even mountains themselves–are put out of the way. This is what the Lord can do for his travelers (it is promised by the prophet Isaiah), but He does it without fuss, and in response to the one who simply thinks of Him: "Think of Him in all your ways, and He will smooth your path" (Prv. 3:6 NEB).

The mind can build barriers, produce huge obstacles, collide with boulders of impossibility. Strangely and wonderfully, when we turn our thoughts to Him with whom nothing is an impossibility (and to turn thoughts takes an act of will), He smoothes the path for us. We find it possible, maybe even easy, to move forward.

Don’t waste time, energy, perhaps sleep-time, thinking of all those rocks in the way. Think of Him. Think of Him! You may find your path suddenly smoothed.

Quiet

Left school at 1 today. Plan was to head off to Haagen Daz to do some marking of compositions but the balmy hilltop with the swaying of the palm trees beckoned me. I made my way to my favourite quiet spot overlooking the pool. Let my hair down, close my eyes and let the breeze have its way with me. I opened my eyes after a few minutes only to laugh at myself. For my mind was a total state of blank during those minutes–a moment of much-needed quiet from myself! No thoughts speeding through at warp speed vying for my attention. Just letting God’s peace wash over me. It was a moment of inarticulate closeness. No need for words. It was as if the wind carried my thoughts away into heaven. Aahhhh… heaven…

The Others

This excerpt is dedicated especially to Jo, Angela, Wen, Min, Hwee Peck, Sharine & Ian.

"This stream of counselling… flows through His people as well. We need others–we need them deeply. The fact is, we are usually too close to our lives to see what’s going on. Because it’s our story we’re trying to understand, we sometimes don’t know what’s true or false, what’s real and imagined. We can’t see the forest for the trees. It often takes the eyes of someone to whom we can tell our story, bare our souls. The more dire our straits, the more difficult it can be to hear directly from God."
