Fairy Tale?
I don’t believe in fairy tales. I wrote a paper on fairy tales for my psy class before. Recently a friend mentioned that his relationship is a fairy tale that God has allowed them to develop. I am not being skeptical here, but realistic. Fairy tales don’t exist in the real world. Well simply because fairy tales are self-indulgent and it encourages day-dreaming. Which girl doesn’t daydream about being whisked off her feet by Prince Charming. Hullo! Relationships take work! Relationships crucify certain areas of our lives. I rather call it a love story God is developing. The word "love" carries a deeper connotation than just a nice feeling. Look at the cross. Love involves sacrifices and pain. So, girls, if you dream of a knight in shining armour to come carry you off, your vision is off-kilter. We are no damsels to be rescued by a mortal man. Our solace comes from God. When you forsake your first purpose, and take your desires into your own hands, you open yourself up to deception.
And girls, you don’t have to be Little Miss Perfect either! "When a man loves you, he loves you. His love will cover your imperfections… Any relationship that causes you to feel unworthy, unacceptable, undesirable, unlovely, or that you have to work for love is too expensive… God has called the man to cover, protect and provide not only materially for a woman, but emotionally and spiritually as well. You should be richer in mind, body and spirit for your union with the man of your dreams… The man in your life should make rich deposits into your heart and spirit, not withdrawals." (M.K. Hammond, 2000).
So it’s ok if you don’t own a pair of glass slippers. Dance barefoot!
